Country quiet, close to town

Welcome to The Smiling Fox Den, a 4-bedroom, 3-bath country home at the end of a long private road, about 6 miles from downtown La Grange. Spend the day at the pool, gather at the palapa bar, or fish the pond from the bank. Deer, turkeys and plenty of birds are regular visitors, longhorn cattle often graze in the neighbor’s pasture across the road, and at night the sky is full of stars.

Porch rockers, Adirondack chairs, patio dining, and both gas and charcoal grills make it easy to stay outside all evening.

The Smiling Fox, the stuffed fox that gives the house its name

Why “The Smiling Fox”?

It has a story

Imagine a name like Turicchi and trying to make a dinner reservation. After many attempts, Gregg, the patriarch of the family, shortened it to make things easy, and the family became known as The Fox Family.

Lezlie’s mother was an avid animal lover who settled in La Grange, where animals and nature were her life. One day she saw a wounded fox by the road and tried to save it. It didn’t make it, so she had it preserved, and it lives here with us today.

We couldn’t think of a more fitting name. Many memories have been made here over the past 35 years, and much of the décor comes from years past and local artisans. The good spirit is here, and we hope you enjoy your stay.
